Log IELTS: Essay 9

From Haidhi Wiki

Some people believe that the internet has made it easier for people to access information, but it has also made people lazier. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In an era defined by rapid technological advancement, the Internet has fundamentally altered the way society searches for information. Some people think that it makes information searching easier while others argue that it could make people lazier. I firmly believe that this technology can make life more convenient. However, I also view that it has a negative impact on cognitive ability.

The internet has made life easier since we can access news quickly anywhere and whenever we need to know recent updates. For example, we can receive information on discounts, promotions, concert tickets. Another case is the impact on education sectors, the internet has change learning processes more effective and more comfortable, since learners no longer need to go to school because learning materials can massively be received from the internet. Massive open online courses such as Udemy and Coursera also provide us with thousands of subjects including programming, mathematics, and soft skills.

On the other hand, the internet has detrimental impacts that affect critical thinking skills. Research in psychology consistently suggests that people who rely heavily on the internet report lower levels of cognitive abilities because they tend to search for information quickly without an extra effort. Moreover, in this era where artificial intelligence, especially large language models dominates the internet, people are likely to ask them without validating the output they give.

To conclude, the internet has both negative and positive impacts on human life. It can help us to access news quickly or learn a new skill. However, it can be dangerous since people prefer to search for information quickly without considering the truth. Therefore, it is important to use the internet wisely.
